Ador Welding Academy churns out over 1,00,000 welding professionals

Ador Welding Ltd. (formerly Advani-Oerlikon Ltd) , a pioneer in the welding industry in India with a history spanning over six decades, is popularly known as ‘Welders to the Nation’. Ador Welding’s contribution towards welding education in the country is commendable. It has hitherto trained over 100,000 personnel in the art and science of welding and made them professionals. These professionals have all been absorbed in various sectors of the industry.

There is a dearth of welding professionals in the country. Welding is still not in the curriculum or being taught in the engineering colleges!

Ador Welding Academy – an institution

AdorWelding Academy Pvt. Ltd, a 100% subsidiary of Ador Welding Ltd., is an institution in itself with a standing of over four decades engaged in skill training. It develops innovative tools to support the welding skill development and technical education.Under Pre-Service Training, the Academy provides employment-linked finishing courses for various levels in the welding domains: Welders, Supervisors, Engineers & Inspectors. It collaborates with regional & national agencies with proposals for competency and assessment standards, complementary training modules and any other initiative that will strengthen the national skill mission. It also co-develops concurrent certificate modules in welding production with diploma and degree colleges to improve the employability of pass-outs.

Under ‘In-Service Training’, the Academy enhances skill sets and on-the-job performance to meet industry requirements for best manufacturing practices. It collaborates with corporates to design and deliver career-oriented training modules to welding personnel. These modules will be on-site or off-site and would include content on related technical theory as well as employability skills that would enable employees achieve higher competence levels.

Under ‘Technical Training’, the Academy covers a wide range of topics starting from arc physics & controls, to weld defects & remedies, types of welds, materials& microstructures, chemical & mechanical attributes of weld joints, codes & specifications, welder performance qualification, structuring quality plans & policies including occupational health and safety. The faculty comprises academically qualified personnel who have hands-on experience in assisting fabrication shop managers in good manufacturing practices. This helps them relate theoretical concepts to real shop applications and provide the impetus for engineers to develop confidence to explore opportunities for improvement at their workplace.

Under ‘Graduate Programs’, the Academy works with BE and Engineering Diploma Colleges to provide students with opportunities to improve their employability in welding and manufacturing careers. The short period modules(25-350 hours), which include theoretical and practical components, will prepare students for gainful job roles in production, design, and project engineering related to welding fabrication in engineering companies. The Academy is also into Consultancy & Research to help to help the industry follow world-class welding practices in India.

Spreading the wings

In addition to its training centers in Pune and Raipur, the Academy has added fournew locations of training at : Killari, Dist. Latur, Maharashtra ; Chandrapur, Maharashtra; Hosur, Near Bangalore, Karnataka ,and Chennai, in Tamil Nadu.

The Academy has the distinction of having contributed to building National Occupation Standards (NOS) and Qualification Pack (QP) for various Sector Skill Councils, and has conducted training for trainers under Automotive Skills Development Council (ASDC)’s sector skill council.

The Academy’s association with Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Research & Training Institute (BARTI) is on a growth path. Hereafter the programs under BARTI will also be implemented in Chandrapur and Killari, along with Pune center. Repeat orders from the customers like General Electric (GE), Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M), John Deere, TATA Power and others are testimonials to the quality of service the Academy provides to its clients. Welders from Bhutan, working on Chuka Hydel Project have been recently trained in advanced courses. They were earlier trained by the Academy on mid-range welding course.

The Academy has successfully conducted IBR qualification project for GE welders. These welders were to be certified for different materials and positions and in the first attempt all the welders have passed the test and have been qualified by IBR.

In the coming years, the Academy has plans to launch training programs on Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) as well. Indeed, Ador Welding Academy is an eminent knowledge partner making a significant contribution towards skill development and education in welding in the country, thereby helping to bridge the gap between demand and supply of qualified welding personnel to meet the existing and emerging needs of a burgeoning economy.
