Commitment in China HARTING receives award

Margrit Harting has received an
award in Zhuhai for outstanding
commitment at the high-tech
business zone in the million-
inhabitant city in southern China.

The Senior Vice-President and Partner of the HARTING Technology Group, Margrit Harting, has received an award in Zhuhai recognizingthe Espelkamp-based company’s outstanding commitment at thehigh-techbusiness zone of the million-inhabitant city in southern China and her exceptional personal efforts. The award was presented to Anna Wang, Administration Manager of HARTING (Zhuhai) Manufacturing Co., Ltd., at a celebratory event to mark the 20th anniversary of the special business zone where many Chinese and foreign global companies have set up operations. The occasion was attended by high-ranking officials from the city of Zhuhai’s administration, including the mayor and several of his deputies.

HARTING began production in Zhuhai, near to Hong Kong, in 1998 in rented premises. A new building was purchased nine years later where several hundred employees manufacture connectors for the growth markets of China, Japan and South Korea. The Technology Group has invested around €12 million in Zhuhai, which is around 2,000 kilometers from Beijing. Women make up a large proportion of the workforce.

The Espelkamp-based company’s policy of social and environmental responsibility is highly regarded locally. HARTING provides employees with housing and supports the city’s university. When it officially opened its own production facility, the company donated around €20,000 to the university. In 2012, HARTING was presented with the “Hang Seng Pearl River Delta Environmental Award” as part of a competition for its successful environmental strategy.
