Q. Which is the fastest growing product segment and why?
The electrical industry as a whole is showing constrained single digit growth in patches as compared to 2012-13. As a result all products are affected and are going through a phase of slow growth. Generally affected are the expansions of the private industry clientele and infrastructure projects as a whole. However even in the above slowdown there are patches of green, namely pharmaceutical, FMCG, IT, agro based industries, budget hotels and housing, renewable energy, exports etc. One has to search wide and deep for these patches of green. Additionally products that are linked to the direct small end users and in particular the home owners who buy this directly or through interiors, architects or retailers are showing resilience.

Q. Whether the distribution of electrical supplies is limited to a specific region or is it Pan India?
Ours is a Pan India organisation – with 19 offices throughout India covering 12 states. We started in the West in 1943, South in 2005, East in 2006 and North in 2010. Accordingly our strengths also move in the same direction.

Q. How do you ensure faster delivery of your products once the order is placed?
We mostly have the material in stock or in pipeline on order. With 19 offices, 20 warehouses in 12 states, with inventory of over Rs 40+ crore in 7300+ products line, with 300+ member team, we are close to the customer and most times aware what the customer may need. Additionally with 200+ despatches / day, we are the fastest in the field.

Q. How is the industry response so far to your products and services?
Our competitor in terms of revenues is less than half our size and in terms of number of stocking locations is less than one-third our size. These two figures itself explain the industry response to our products and services.

Q. Which are the leading domestic and international brands you are associated with?
Polycab, Crompton Greaves, Schneider Electric, 3M (M-Seal), RPG, Diamond (Diatron), SIMO, CSR, Mudra, Pierlite and Comet (Cosmos)

Q. Going forward, do you have any plans for diversifying into manufacturing of electrical parts?
Our vision statement is “Leadership in Distribution – Always”.
We have distribution as our core strength area and that is where we would like to remain.
We would not like to get into a conflicting position with our vendors or our customers.
Hence we do not have any plans for diversifying into manufacturing of electrical parts; now or in the future.

Q. Where do you see your company five years from now? What kind of challenges do you foresee in future in your line of business?
We are currently following a multitude of parallel strategies in expansion.
In the markets that we are strong and mature, we are focusing on selling our complete product basket to the existing clientele and simultaneously creating focused teams to handle segments wherein we are weak like panel builder, OEM and retailer. In the markets that we have entered recently, namely North and East, we are focusing on increasing our base of clientele there and gradual addition of new branches and stock points. Apart from the above strategies of organic growth, we are constantly scouting for opportunities to create partnerships with other dealers in locations, customer segments or products that we are weak in. In brief, we wish to double our revenues and establish Shree NM in nearly all the major states of India within the next three years!

Q. Lastly, what’s your recommendation for solving the power shortage issues across India?

  • Continued investment in power projects by the government and private sector
  • Focus on increase in non-conventional sources of energy
  • Rapid reduction in Transmission and Distribution losses.
  • Reduction in power theft

Q. Other information
It is interesting to share that Country’s first electricity distribution license to an Indian company was granted to a group firm.
