We believe in always going from new, challenging and less travelled path

Q. Professional achievements and career progression.

As I always wanted to become engineer, I did engineering from Pune University I ranked 4th in University.

My career started as R&D engineer. The idea of starting my own business kept me restless. I started of with small business ventures & joined family business for it’s newly launched product sales. I grew as sales person over here. Selling concept based product made me explore various sales tools. Right From seminars, presentations, Proof of concept to product demo in auditorium were few ideas we executed.

From here I moved on to start own business. Professionally I ventured into almost all types of business activities, manufacturing, trading, and providing services, all into core fields. Largely they were related with two products- Industrial cooling towers & Cranes.

Q. Attributes that helped you to reach where you are in your career.

There are various attributes that one needs to be groomed into or develop as they span their career. Following comes to my mind first:

Being Courageous- Don’t be afraid to jump into unknown area. Eventually you will learn
Passionate- Love what you do
Perseverance- Do not get affected by challenges and hurdles. Learn to ‘win or work around your challenges without getting tired
Learning willingness- Hunger for learning – Learn from every person, every situation. Reading books, learning new skills
Flexibility/Adaptability- Everything is changing around us. Technology, Client, Supplier, your team members, governments, rules, taxes everything. You have to be agile to adapt to changed situation

Q. How far have you succeeded in challenging the stereotypes?

“It’s very depressive to live in a time where its’ easier to break an atom than a prejudice’ Albert Einstein, this holds true even after more than 50 years.

I was not allowed to take admission in mechanical engineering and here I am, throughout my career working in field related to Thermodynamics & Material handling!

If you call anybody to introduce you or your company for the first time- more than 90% of time you are considered as some telemarketing person calling and given cold vibes if you are a female – even today!

So stereotypes start from gender bias

All female entrepreneurs have overcome this and dealt with it. So I’ll not say much about it. Few prejudice /biases/stereotypes

  • Taking loan is bad
  • Not possible to give time to family
  • Women are good in HR
  • Us starting rental of Aerial Platforms. We are pioneer in bringing this equipment in India for rentals. We were told this will not work in India. Today you see that no industrial construction is done without Aerial Platforms!
  • We believe in always going from new, challenging and less travelled path

Q. How can women entrepreneurs broaden their horizons and become inspiring leaders of tomorrow?

Everything happens twice – once in your mind a second – in reality. Dream- Learn- adapt – Move this is my mantra!

Q. In both essential and digital functions, women suffered the repercussions of the economic and social effects of the pandemic. Your comments?

The Covid19 pandemic brought in the good and the not-so-good effects and learnings. We have learnt importance of family, relationships and human beings. There was a sudden break applied to entire world. Stop – Look. So we looked around and found ourselves!

Considering how it affected women –
Biologically women are considered nurturers, and as they have to spend sizable amount of their life doing this activity, they are considered as inferior to their counter part of same specie.

When any calamity occurs the weaker section of society suffers. So during this pandemic children a women have suffered more. This pandemic has affected entire world financially, health wise, socially and spiritually.

Irrespective of status whether homemaker, or earning, Labour or high flying executive, Service person or entrepreneurs, married, single or divorcee, mother or childless, all women have experienced some extent of above factors. Lucky ones could see themselves in different roles, could pursue their hobbies. Some left their jobs and did what they were not able to do.

All were not lucky. Staying in small houses or with entire family together for many days has created some worst situations. Women even had to face abuse. Long working hours, taking care of the sick, worrying about money are the few things.

Q. What’s the message you want to send to young working women?

I have a simple 3 point formula:
I’ll say love what you do
Never ever blame anyone for whatever situation you are in
Be happy always!
