Durga Bearings is a renowned name in the bearings trade in India. Starting its journey as a small trader way back in 1979, Durga has grown into a giant distributor with pan-India presence, offering the world’s top brands of bearings from one single source ex-stock. Over the years, the company has forayed into manufacturing in-house, and come up with its own brand of bearings. Engineering Review speaks to Deepak Sultania, Managing Director, Durga Bearings to find out the standing, wherewithal and offerings of the company which is constantly striving for excellence in its chosen field. Excerpts:

Q. You are a renowned distributor of Bearings in the country. Please tell us something about your beginnings.

We started our journey in 1979 in Chennai. My father M.P Sultania was a first generation entrepreneur, who saw an opportunity that there was a lack of bearing solution providers for the manufacturing industry in India. Over the years we have grown to represent the top brands of bearings in the world under one roof. We are known in the industry for quick service, high quality of products and being a complete solution provider. We started our automation division three years back where we are providing comprehensive solutions for Industrial automation and electrical products such as Switchgears, Motors, AC Drives & PLCs along with Control Panels.

Q. What’s your present standing and which are the various brands you represent and market today?

Today, Durga Bearings is one of the market leaders in bearing trade in India. We have a pan-India presence with deep penetration across Industrial hubs and towns. As of 2021, we have three regional offices based in Mumbai, Bangalore & Chennai and sales offices in more than 15 cities across India. Our group turnover exceeds Rs. 100 cr and we represent all leading brands such as INA-FAG, NSK-RHP, THK, NBC, Minebea, McGill, GGB and TBI. Our automation division represents brands such as Danfoss VFDs, ABB switchgears and Unitronics HMI+PLC.

Q. Do you also offer your own products? Please share details.

We offer our in-house brand BMD for bearings. We source the bearings from reputable suppliers across the world with a proven history of quality manufacturing standards.

Our automation division provides solutions for MCC Panels, PLC Panels and VFD Panels. Our entire design, production and assembly team is in-house so as to have a strict quality control in all our products.

Q. What’s your unique selling proposition?

We hold a stock of Rs. 100 cr + across India to serve our customers in time. Customers do not need to maintain inventory at their end and can follow Just-In-Time concept. We offer genuine high quality products as our procurement is directly from manufacturers. We offer after-sales technical support and service to ensure a smooth process right from the design stage to the assembly of the machine. We offer a basket of products ranging from Bearings, LM Guideways, Bushes, Ball-screws, Belts, AC Drives, Switchgears, HMI+PLC
and electric motors so that customers can procure all products from one single source.

Q. Please give more insights into your infrastructure and capabilities.

We have our warehouse in Bhiwandi measuring 13,000 sq. ft. and head office in Andheri, Mumbai. We have a total team size of more than 100 people with 20+ sales engineers across industrial towns in Ahmedabad, Surat, Rajkot, Pune. We are constructing a new state-of-the-art warehouse-cum- office complex in Marol MIDC to increase our inventory and manpower capabilities. The new warehouse will admeasure 26,000 sq. ft. space along with 16,000 sq. ft. of office space.
