ReeR Watertight Enclosures: Protection that extends the boundaries of industrial safety

12

In complex industrial environments, safety is not limited to the precision of sensors or the speed of system response: it also depends on their ability to withstand harsh conditions. Water, steam, extreme temperatures and aggressive detergents are all conditions that put the reliability of protective devices to the test.

This is why ReeR has developed a range of WT (WaterTight) enclosures that allow EOS safety light curtains to operate in environments where robustness is as essential a requirement as precision.

Total protection, even in complex environments
WT enclosures guarantee IP67 and IP69K protection, the highest rating for industrial enclosures: total defence against dust and high-pressure water jets, up to 100 bar and temperatures of 80 °C. This resistance makes them ideal for applications in environments exposed to frequent washing, strong water jets or constant humidity.

In addition to protecting against infiltration, the enclosures also act as a mechanical barrier, safeguarding the sensor body from shock or abrasion. The integrated GORE™ valve prevents internal

condensation, preserving the transparency of the PMMA tube over time and ensuring the accuracy of the optical beam.

A range designed for every need
Every operating environment presents different challenges: this is why ReeR has developed dedicated models.

The WTH (Heated) versions feature a thermostatically controlled heating system that allows operation in extremely cold conditions, down to -25 °C. In refrigerated environments or those subject to rapid temperature changes, this system eliminates condensation, ensuring a clear view of the detection field at all times.
The WTF (WaterTight Food) enclosures, on the other hand, are designed for the food industry: made of inert and non-toxic materials such as AISI 316L stainless steel, Delrin and PMMA, they are resistant to detergents and disinfectants, meeting Ecolabstandards and the high pressure washdown procedures typical of the sector.

From theory to practice
Outdoor safety: the Port of Brisbane
At Brisbane’s automated AutoStrad™ terminal, the challenge was to integrate safety barriers into an environment exposed to rain, salt spray and intense sunlight. In a setting where cranes, AGVs and automatic loading systems operate in synergy, access protection is crucial to prevent intrusions into hazardous areas.

WT safety barriers proved to be the ideal solution: their IP67 protection rating and mechanical resistance ensure operational continuity and reliability even in extreme weather conditions, where maintenance is difficult and safety cannot be compromised.

Hygiene and precision in the food industry
In a plant specialising in the automatic handling and packaging of cold cuts and cheeses, hygiene is just as important as safety.
EOS4 barriers with WTF enclosures protect operators from hazardous areas while maintaining visibility and accessibility during loading and dosing operations.

The IP69K protection rating allows the entire plant to be subjected to frequent and intensive washing with high-pressure water and aggressive detergentswithout compromising the operation of the sensors.
The result is an efficient safety system that complies with food industry cleaning protocols while ensuring rapid response and long-term stability.

Beyond protection: operational continuity and reliability
Every detail of WT enclosures, from the selected materials to the compact cylindrical design, is designed to extend the life cycle of safety barriers and reduce downtime.Whether it’s a port terminal subject to tropical rains or a food line subjected to daily washing, ReeR enclosures represent an advanced protection solution, where safety, reliability and hygiene converge in a single system.
