Q1. Carl Zeiss is a leading technology-driven company in the field of optics & metrology. How do these solutions benefit the manufacturing sector, and what message do you have for the growing MSME sector in India?

Carl Zeiss has been at the forefront of providing precision metrology solutions that empower manufacturers to meet the highest quality standards. Our advanced technologies, such as multisensor Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMMs), X-ray systems, and optical metrology tools, enable manufacturers to achieve requisite accuracy and efficiency for their processes.  These solutions are critical in industries like automotive, aerospace, electronics, and medical devices, where precision is non-negotiable.

For the MSME sector in India, our message is clear: embrace technology to remain competitive in a rapidly evolving global market. Quality pays for itself and the investments in quality by MSME benefits in the long run. On a personal experience I can share stories of many MSME units who adopted the journey in the 2010’s and earlier. Today they have grown into Corporates with Global customers and look back at these investments being  a catalyst in their growth.
At Zeiss, we are committed to supporting MSMEs with scalable and cost-effective solutions tailored to their unique needs, helping them align with global standards and unlock new growth opportunities.

Q2. How do you contribute through your portfolio of industrial metrology and quality assurance in machine tools and metalworking?

Our industrial metrology solutions are designed to integrate seamlessly into the workflows of machine tools and metalworking industries.
Machine Tools industry has the challenge of measuring large Die cast parts and our Optical solutions of Scanners fit well for thison the shop floor. Machine tool Spindles need high precision form measurements to work at higher RPM and better surface finish for the dies and molds. This is achieved with our SURFCOM and RONDCOM Series equipment.

Machine tool Guideways and structural parts carry specifications of GD&T like Coaxiality which can be a challenge to precision CMM’s .Here we have our MMZ series of large gantry bridge CMM’s spanning across 5 meters with a better precision to handle large castings with precision machined locations.

Q3. How are you geared up to serve the emerging markets in India, like e-mobility and electronics?

In e-mobility, we support workflow in key components like Lithium Cells, Electric motors, Battery trays, Automotive electronics and its  Aluminium enclosures. Each of these have a 7 stage workflow and quality gates. To mention a few, Welded Hairpins in an electric motor can be inspected for porosity to improve the process. Incoming inspection of Lithium Cells in a X ray machine enables OEM’s to document key features and control elements with an NDT approach. This helps choosing the right supplier and maintain supply quality in long term.

In the electronics sector, our advanced microscopic solutions, like the ZEISS SmartZoom 100, address high-speed, high-volume inspection needs. These tools ensure the accuracy and reliability of components such as circuit boards and mobile phone parts, which are critical for India’s push toward domestic electronics manufacturing.

Q4. You are known for your ongoing research to develop cutting-edge, futuristic products. What are the new developments we can expect from your portfolio that have been introduced recently or are upcoming in the future?

At ZEISS, our commitment to innovation extends beyond hardware to include a robust and expanding portfolio of software solutions, designed to empower manufacturers in the era of Industry 4.0. One of our key advancements is the integration of ZEISS PiWeb, a scalable quality data management software that we’ve already highlighted as a game-changer in enabling manufacturers to collect, analyze, and visualize quality data. By providing actionable insights, PiWeb helps optimize processes and ensures consistent quality across production environments.

In addition to PiWeb, we continue to enhance our flagship measurement software, ZEISS CALYPSO, which now offers improved usability and automation features to simplify complex measurement tasks. Our Digital Twin Technology, embedded in tools like the Virtual Measuring Room (VMR) in ZEISS Inspect, allows manufacturers to simulate measurement processes in a virtual environment, reducing setup times and accelerating prototyping. Furthermore, we are leveraging AI-powered solutions, such as ZEISS Automated Defect Detection (ZADD), to enable faster and more accurate defect identification, particularly in X-ray and CT systems.
