Q. Can you brief us about Company’s global network & activities?

CEM (SHENZHEN EVERBEST MACHINERY INDUSTRY CO. LTD.), is a leading manufacturer in the TMI segment. For over 25 years, CEM, has been a leader of measuring instruments, technical research and development, industrial design, bsoftware design and development andbproduction of high-tech initiatives. Innovation, customization andbreliability is what CEM stands for. Withba robust team of around 1500 peoplebin R&D and production, the products guarantee impeccable accuracy. Development and Innovation are our forte. CEM products are available and sold throughout the world. We have a world-wide distributor network, while our own offices are present in China,USA, Germany, Russia and India.

Q. How about your company’s initiatives in T&M (Test & Measurement) space? Which are your focus areas?

Having interacted with manufacturers & traders from across the world, we always felt that Indians were denied the latest in technology. These were either unavailable or were priced exorbitantly, so that only a select few could afford. There was a huge need and a technological gap between advanced equipments coupled with the affordability and reliability that we Indians are used to. CEM took on the challenge to fill this gap. We are providing instruments that enable nonintrusive measurement & monitoring along with them being completely risk-free.

Our vision towards Innovation, Customisation & Reliability continues with

• Combining compatible instrumentation needs into singular products
• Using 3D printing technologies in housing production ensuring best IP ratings
• Focusing on smart instruments to drive seamless connectivity
• Providing cloud-enabled data transfers from our instruments
• Enabling live remote monitoring over wireless & Bluetooth connectivity
• Ensuring reliable after-sales service support
Innovation, R&D, high quality and our unique ability to customize specifications are our principle drivers and will remain so.

Q. What are the market opportunities for your T&M products in India? How do you plan to position these products?

CEM’s future in India looks brighter than ever. Since we are open to customized development for volume orders, we are being approached by various sectors for their specific requirements. We are able to consult and advise regarding applications and testing environments as well, such that we are able to cater to targeted & specific requirements. We had initial hiccups due to the brand being “Chinese” – people tend to forget that even the best brands of the world are manufactured in China. Acceptability took a bit of time but CEM’s quality, technology and innovation speak for themselves and interestingly, our highend tech products are doing extremely well in the Indian market now.

Like Apple, CEM has its own firmware and hardware design so we are able to take out maximum juice from the hardware. Innovation, customization and reliability remain our overall strategic positioning. High-end products at reasonable pricing is the way to go. For example, our multimeters with in-built thermal imagers are offered for around Rs.55000 against others where same or lower quality/specifications are sold for at least a Lakh.

Q. What is your marketing strategy for Indian market?

It has been a challenge overcoming the clichéd notions, but in the end CEM’s quality, technology, innovation, reliability, followed with robust after-sales services have proven otherwise. We have a huge number of repeat customers and word-of-mouth branding too is working very well. As far as high quality specifications and accuracy are provided at reasonable rates, people welcome the products. They are fed-up of the low-cost offerings which compromise on specifications & accuracy as well as inadequate after-sales support and service. We are already on our way to establishing a strong & robust distributor and dealer network. Our trained Dealers will and do approach the end-customers in their respective areas to ease their functions and needs for testing & measurement by providing solutions to existing problem areas as well as consult on others. We plan to appoint only one Dealer per location/area such as to avoid unnecessary overlapping and competition amongst dealers – hence, addressing the primary concern which TMI dealers face all over India for all top brands.

Q. Can you please elucidate the contribution of R&D in the success of your products?

CEM has 3 in-house R&D centers with a huge production facility of over 24,000 square metres. Its processes and systems are setup and implemented as per ISO9001 standards. Consequently, the products are approved by UL, GS, CE and RoHS. In 2009, CEM also has obtained the ISO13485 quality certificate for its medical products. No wonder CEM enjoys a leadership position in almost all developed countries like the US & all of Europe. It is also an OEM to a few of the most respected names in the industry.

Strong R&D is the accelerator of an enterprise and CEM has excellent R&D environment and all kinds of equipments, strengthened by a first class, talented R&D team and personnel, which makes the company continuously launch new products into the market. Quality is the life of CEM in development, and we always pay attention and keep improving the quality standards. After many years of development, CEM has set up a sound quality management system that standardizes and consummates the entire production flow on the basis of quality standards. A highly professional & careful work attitude makes for high quality and stability of the products. Advanced production lines and skilled workers ensure the quality and quantity of products. CEM believes that quality is the life of an enterprise. A strong scientific production team continuously exploits new fields to create better products.

Q. Brief us about the quality policy for the business?

Each and every component and raw material is tested and checked preproduction. During the assembly process, various tests are also carried out at every point. Before good are shipped out of the factory, third-party inspections are done by companies like TUV or SGS or the like. Once products reach India, they are individually inspected and tested against known standards for which individual reports are available. If any fault is located in any instrument, we are able to trace the fault level backwards, right down to the component supplier. All instruments adhere to the RoHS standard and every instrument is made as per latest IEC and/or EMC directives so as to comply with CE, CSA and UL certifications. Even before despatch, every instrument is checked at every POS across the world.

Q. Can you brief us more about your top line product range?

We have just launched an unbeatable and enviable Thermal Imager range, right from smartphone adaptors that turn your own phone into a hi-res full function thermal imager with in-built analysis and reporting features, to professional grade hi-tech ones having upto 640×480 px resolution. We also offer ones which can be connected to drones. Our range of thermal imagers are surprisingly affordable and enable usage on the ground. Even smaller objects high above the ground can be clearly and accurately measured and these also allow the user to zoom in without any pixelation of imagery. Other innovative offerings include Multimeters & Clamp Meters combined with Thermal Imagers, Air Particle Counters, Multi-Gas Analysers, Nuclear & X-ray Radiation Meter, High Current Data Loggers, ELCB Testers, Clamp on Ground Resistance Testers and Digital Storage Oscilloscopes on Tablets.

Q. What is the status & scope of growth as you see for the Indian T&M Industry & How it is positioning itself against the global market?

All Indian industries are going hi-tech and they all require equally hi-tech T&M instruments for the related processes, which should ideally follow certain standards. Standards which even the users are mostly not aware of. In fact, most users are still unaware as to which environment requires which instrument. Most organisations and people ask for CE certification, unaware that CE standards are valid and applicable only for the European Union and those standards would not serve any purpose under Indian conditions and climate.

For example, the purity of Electricity is way higher in the EU than in India.Hence, European certifications don’t and will not work in India and unfortunately, in India, we do not have any certification standards. The IS standards that we have are meant only for Analogue Equipment and the ones available for Digital Instruments we hardly have any. High quality and standard instruments can find a foothold in India only when such required standards are set. Otherwise, we would all continue to use low cost, non-standardised, low specification, unreliable equipment, which has no relevance to the required testing and measurement.

The top priority of the T&M Industry in India, along with the Government, should be to set up forums and address the standardisation issue and need, along with maintenance of the same; so that we are able to educate, empower and expand usage of hi-tech, latest and standardised equipment of the highest standards. Once the above is taken care of, expansion and growth of the T&M industry will go hand-in-hand with the growth of industry overall in India. Education and awareness are much required as to the usage of the T&M equipment and also the solutions and options available and possible. Currently, most users are even unaware of the available solutions.
