Kemppi - inverter

Kemppi received the first order for PS 5000 inverter basedMIG / MAG machines from COFMOW, New Delhi, in the year 1986. These machines were supplied to Rail Coach Factory Kapurthala.

This was the beginning of a long relationship with Indian railways and it has been chugging along. Indian Railways is the pioneer in embracing new technology. It was the first time Industrial Welding Inverter entered in to the country.

In 1993 Kemppi introduced the first Digital Welding Machine to the world. In 1997 the first IGBT inverter based true Digital Controlled Welding machine was put in to operation at Rail Coach Factory Kapurthala and Chittaranjan Locomotive Works.

In 1998  ADTRANZ collaborated for the fabrication of underframes of the WAP 5 ABB 3-Phase AC Locomotive. WAP5 is the first High Speed Electric loco introduced by the Indian Railways to pull Rajdhani Express.

Kemppi Indian inverterThe underframe of this Loco was built with thinner sections compared to the traditional WAP 4 loco and hence needed Pulsed MIG application for reduced heat input and spatterless welding. Again KEMPPI played a huge role in delivering the desirables and rising to the expectations of Indian Railways.

In the year 1999 Indian Railways started manufacturing Stainless Steel coaches with Technology Transfer from LHB Fiat. These coaches are the ones you find today with Shatabdi and Rajdhani rakes. There were extensive use of Ferritic Steel and Austenitic Steel on the Side Walls and the Roof. The welding application was quite demanding. Initially the manufacturers faced problem of cracks on the HAZ and removing spatters was spoiling the anti-corrosive property of the parent material. Kemppi’s welding Team led by Mr. Jari Kokkailainen did extensive trials and resolved the issue.

Kemppi became a trusted name in Indian Railways for following reasons:

  • Good Quality
  • Better Reliability
  • Latest Technology at par with the Western Countries.
  • Promised Deliveries.
  • Good Network of service and spares support across the country

It is true that Kemppi are the world leaders in welding inverter technology and have definitely shown the path to Indian Railways to meet the most demanding welding situations and produce defect- free welds.

Today one can definitely find a KEMPPI machine in any of the Railway workshop in India. At Kemppi we take pride in our association with Indian Railways and look forward to adding value in every opportunity!!
