Safety & Industrial Automation: The Collaboration between Italiana Robot and ReeR

34

In the world of industrial automation, safety is a fundamental pillar to guarantee efficient operations and compliance with current regulations. Italiana Robot is an Italian company with over 40 years of experience in the design and manufacture of automated systems for palletising, depalletising and handling a wide range of products and sizes. To ensure that its solutions meet the highest safety standards, the customer has chosen to integrate advanced devices from ReeR, a leader in industrial safety technology.

ReeR Safety Solutions

Palletising and Pallet Outfeed Line

For this application, Italiana Robot adopted the SAFEGATE SMO 3B safety light curtain combined with the MZ L2XP muting system. This configuration uses an ‘L’ muting logic with two cross beam sensors, allowing the safe transit of pallets from the hazardous zone to the safe zone. At the same time, it prevents unauthorised personnel access to hazardous areas, ensuring effective protection of operators and uninterrupted business continuity.

Continuous Flow Palletising Line

In settings where continuous pallet flow is required, the implementation of the SAFEGATE SMO 3B barrier together with the  MZ T2X muting system was the correct choice. This solution adopts a ‘T’ muting logic with two cross beam sensors, creating a bi-directional access control system. This configuration facilitates the uninterrupted transit of materials between hazardous and safe zones, maintaining a high level of safety without compromising production efficiency.

Pick & Place Station with Cartesian Axes

For pick&place stations that use Cartesian axes for automated tray movement, our customer chose to integrate EOS4 or SAFEGATE S 3B safety light curtains. These multi-beam devices are designed for access control. In case of accidental or unauthorised entry, the system immediately stops the automation, preventing potential accidents and ensuring a safe working environment.

Stations protected by fixed guards

For stations protected by fixed guards equipped with safety microswitches and RFID sensors, Italiana Robot uses the programmable safety controller MOSAIC M1, combined with the expansion modules MI16 and MOR4. This solution offers centralised and flexible management of safety logic, allowing the control of various devices, including light curtains. Intuitive configuration using the dedicated MSD software makes it easy to adapt the system to palletising lines of different sizes and complexity, optimising safety and operational efficiency.

This collaboration is an emblematic example of how the integration of industrial automation and advanced safety solutions can lead to safer and more efficient production plants. Through the adoption of state-of-the-art devices and careful design, the two companies contribute significantly to improving competitiveness in the manufacturing sector.
