Sustainable Practices at NBC Bearings

Strategies for Reducing Environmental Footprint:

1.Energy Efficiency:
We have implemented energy-efficient technologies in our manufacturing units to minimize energy consumption. This includes the use of LED lighting, energy-efficient motors,air-conditioning setting at 25DegC and variable frequency drives.  We’ve saved enough electricity last year equivalent to the electricity requirement of around 1.2 million homes.

2.Renewable Energy:
A significant portion of our energy need is met through renewable energy sources such as solar and wind. We have installed solar panels across our facilities to harness clean energy and reduce reliance on non-renewable sources. We have generated over 3500 MWh of power, enough to fully charge 35,650 Tesla cars.

3.Waste Reduction:
We focus on reducing waste at every stage of production. This includes optimizing our manufacturing processes to minimize material waste, recycling scrap materials, and implementing waste segregation practices to ensure proper disposal and recycling. We reduced hazardous waste by 28 metric tons in the last year.

4.Water Conservation:
We have adopted various water conservation measures, including rainwater harvesting, wastewater treatment, and recycling systems. These initiatives help us reduce water consumption and ensure sustainable water management.We have saved water during the year which is equivalent to support the daily water needs of 16,600 people.

5.We are aggressively pursuing the ESG program “PLANET” across all NBC facilities.
This involves evaluating Scope 1,
Scope 2 and Scope 3 emissions and also implementing decarbonizationroad map in phased manner.

Implementing Circular Economy Principles:

The principles of a circular economy, which emphasize reusing, refurbishing, and recycling materials to create a closed-loop system, can be effectively implemented in the Indian bearing industry. At NBC Bearings, we have embraced these principles in several ways:

1.Product Longevity and Repairability: We design our bearings to have a longer lifespan and to be easily repairable. This reduces the need for frequent replacements & minimizes waste.

2.Remanufacturing: We offer remanufacturing services for worn-out bearings. This involves refurbishing old bearings to their original specifications, thus extending their life & reducing the demand for new raw materials.

3.End-of-Life Management: We have established programs for the responsible disposal & recycling of bearings at the end of their lifecycle. This ensures that materials are recovered and reused, rather than ending up in landfills.

Our experience with implementing these sustainable practices has been highly positive. Not only have we reduced our environmental footprint, but we have also seen significant cost savings and efficiency improvements.
