Fighting back the fear with STP MAGIS magic

Working on the same lines, Ravi Mudagal, MD, Geeta Tools has been providing best in class products while investing in the best technology for the last 10 years. When Geeta Tools started in 2003, it focused on reconditioning of cutting tools, but today there is more to it. Having realised the potential of the industry, the company started manufacturing cutting tools in the name of Radiance Toolings since April 2013.

“There is a huge demand for cutting tools in the industry and we were confident that we can provide some of the best cutting tools. Keeping this in mind we invested in good technologies and bought few 5-axis machines,” says Mudagal. But Mudagal wanted more in terms of customer satisfaction and perfection. This was when he invested in a Tool Presetting and Measuring System STP MAGIS 400 from Italy-based Company SPERONI .

Talking about his investment in inspection technology Mudagal says, “Such technologies are hardly put to use in the Indian market, we still have the budget friendly mentality. All I wanted to deliver was high-end products to my customers, which is why I opted for this machine.”

At times if the tool geometry varies from what is required even by a degree or in microns, the overall output turns out to be a waste. Even if the operator feeds the right data, there remains a minute chance that it might differ from the actual requirement. Such problems delay the whole process. Radiance Toolings too faced similar probems, which prompted Mudagal to invest in SPERONI STP MAGIS 400, a proper tool presetter, and inspection machine that can measure the geometry before the job is done.

Talking about how he found out about SPERONI , Mudagal says, “I had visited SPERONI’s booth in EMO 2011. I went to them and understood the technology, its applications, benefits, etc. Later, when I started manufacturing cutting tools, a friend suggested me to go for STP MAGIS 400, since we were having some trouble regarding the tool geometry.” Mudagal confirms that prior to the use of STP MAGIS 400, there were a few complaints from the customers regarding the geometry but after SPERONI MAGIS 400 was put to use it has never happened again.

Talking about the challenges he says, “Before using STP MAGIS 400, we were having issues to get the proper size, for example, if we want 45 degree, and the size is 44.7 degree the overall job will be different from what we had planned. But once we had the machine and started doing the inspection, correction using it we didn’t have to redo any process. Now, the process is smooth and the output perfect.”

This is not all, Mudagal claims that since the use of STP MAGIS 400, they have not only obtained perfect output but also saved on time and the productivity level has also gone higher. Such kind of inspection technology is not very popular in India, but it’s very important to adopt such technologies in order to grow and compete with the global players. Manufacturers need to updating their technology to fulfill the ever changing demand of customers and invest in the latest technologies.

Talking about the after sales service Moolya says, “After selling product, we depute one engineer to the customer’s facility. He spends the necessary time with them, understands their requirement and provides them real time training. He works closely with the operator and guides him. Only when he is sure that the operator is ready to use the machine by himself, he leaves the company.”

“After the training program, it is easy for an operator to operate the machine, but in case there is a requirement further, our engineers are always there,” Moolya adds.
