Grob Machine Tools : Precision with perfection
Q. How was the year that went by for your organization?
GROB is growing consistently for the past seven years and this year the business was higher by 18%, when compared to the previous year. In 2017, GROB acquired DMG Meccanica and cemented technological competence in Electromobility, encompassing futuristic projects for manufacture of electric drives for automobiles. New products from GROB, like the F series for frame structure parts, dual spindle machines with pallet changer for high volume production or the G-1050 for large size work pieces were received and liked by the manufacturing world with great enthusiasm.
Q. What are the innovations you could showcase recently as a trendsetter?
There have been a series of innovations from GROB recently. In fact, our Universal 5-axis Machining Centers G-350, G550 & G750 have been serving the high end machining domain for a decade and have undergone substantial innovations through the G-module concept to make it even more robust. These machines can be adapted for every application, whether as a milling and turning center, with Grob rotary pallet storage system, or with or without pallet changer with trendy GROB4Pilot operator panel.
G350 and G 550 Generation 2 have been innovated to reduce chip to chip time, enhanced tool length , increased number of tools in ATC and less floor space.
Introduction of GROB rotary pallet system ensures economical production through better machine utilization and reduction in operating manpower.
Q. There’s always a better way. How did you prove this axiom?
GROB’s system machines have been well established in automotive production, which did not create a situation of resting on laurels. A new gantry concept for machining chassis and structural parts, a modern operating concept and a new version of GROB-NET4Industry have been introduced recently to augment the customer experience. GROB developed GTS (GROB Thermal spray ) machine in two variants i.e. spray wire and plasma powder spray to meet growing demands of its customers to reduce the weight of Cylinder blocks and to increase the life of the bore.
Q. What are the dynamics of your industry and what measures do you take to stay ahead?
We are not in the business of ‘commodity machine tools’. We operate in a high tech niche area and go out of the way to innovate and offer exemplary value to our customers. Outstanding product quality, leading technology and excellent service are the key components of our partnership with Industry. Whether it is Hyundai Chennai with over 80 machines producing cast to finish cylinder block and cylinder head or Mahindra for cylinder block & transmission project or Two wheeler maker TVS for complete machining of crank case & cylinder head or GEELY in China, to whom we shipped over 160 machining centers and four assembly stations for machining cylinder heads and engine blocks plus gear box and clutch housings last year, GROB maintains a basket of quality and support ideas to stay in the lead and keep winning supplier awards.
Q. What are the value additions you envisage to keep up your brand promise and to delight the customer in a competitive environment?
A lot of competition works on a price point. But, many do not realize that price is what you pay and value is what you get. Our design innovations continuously add to customer’s value. GROB-WERKE is an internationally active company making universal machining centres, complex manufacturing systems including automated assembly lines. We are the first machine tool company to gain expertise in electric drives manufacturing and assembly lines for cars which includes motors, battery and fuel cells that make us an ideal partner for future proof automotive manufacturing.
