Chairman ELECRAMA -2014

ELECRAMA-2014 is poised for a quantum leap in terms of event experience, ambience, context, commerce and is moving to the newest and world-class exhibition location in the country – Bangalore International Exhibition Centre (BIEC), Bangalore. ELECRAMA’s philosophy of evolution based on continuous innovation, improvisation based on participant feedback, has driven this radical transformation.

Taking a quantum leap; ELECRAMA-2014 will be a generation ahead, in terms of core services, features and amenities – highest quality on par with international standards. The exhibition and the slew of concurrent events will broaden the perspectives for a modern business person and will offer a strong interface with the key decision makers like governments, electrical utilities, funding agencies, technical specialists, EPC contractors, electrical consultants and academic communities.

ELECRAMA-2014 is envisaged to be an experience beyond compare from its previous ten editions. ELECRAMA has always received overwhelming response from domestic and overseas business visitors, including from power utilities, technical consultants and engineering project contractors. ELECRAMA has emerged as the world’s largest electrical transmission and distribution exhibition showcasing India’s manufacturing capability and strengths to the global community. Manufacturers, traders, utilities, consultants and decision makers from over 100 countries, market leaders with their latest products in the fields of power transmission and distribution will converge at ELECRAMA-2014. The highlights are an International T&D Conclave, TRAFOTECH – International Conference on Transformers, CEO Summit, CIGRE Tutorials, Innovation Day with cross stakeholder debate and Awards ceremony.

ELECRAMA is the world’s biggest event in T&D, it is already growing after every addition. We have large scale plans to make ELECRAMA-2014 much bigger , better even than ELECRAMA- 2012. ELECRAMA-2014 will be a WORLD CLASS EXIBITION in terms of Plans, Ambience & Infrastructure.

With economic deceleration and the sluggish growth in the power sector along with escalating imports of electrical equipment, Indian manufacturers who created extra capacity are now finding it difficult to utilize it. To more optimally utilize their production capacities, they need to focus on expanding overseas and establish an Indian footprint globally. In ELECRAMA 2014, we have taken a unique theme of ‘Go Global’ wherein our idea is to focus on global competitiveness of products manufactured in India. We have got the necessary infrastructure and the capability to develop world class engineering products at competitive costs.

Vice Chairman, ELECRAMA-2014

Today all the top global players in the power equipment have presence in India. They have set up state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities and are producing products which are not only sold in the country but also sold back to their home countries as well. Thus, they are able to sell at a price higher than what they sell here but can recover premium as it is still lower than what is sold in their home countries. Like the earlier ELECRAMAs, which have been successful and have helped the industry, the forthcoming event will also be definitely a success. Developing nations of the Middle East, Central Asia, West Asia and Africa , South East Asia are undertaking electrification vigorously through funding from multilateral agencies like the World Bank, African Development Bank and IMF. Indian products have immense opportunities for capturing these markets. The Indian government has also realized the huge potential for exporting to Africa. South East Asian Countries especially Thailand, Bangkok and Vietnam participate on a large scale at ELERAMA.

The ChangeXchange 2014 – 2nd Reverse Buyer-Seller Meet (RBSM), supported by the Department of Commerce, Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Government of India, will allow participants from these countries to meet over 1,000 suppliers from India. The ChangeXchange 2014 will be the biggest meeting place of international buyers who plan to source electrical products and equipment from India. Africa has about 54 countries with a combined population of around 6.5 billion people. However, electrification in these countries is barely 30 per cent which means there is scope of the rest 70 per cent to get electrified. In this ELECRAMA 2014 surly there will be deals sanctioned and contracts signed even in this ELECRAMA thereby boosting significantly the exports of our products.

The inaugural CIGRE Tutorial sessions were held at ELECRAMA 2012 which saw eminent international experts of CIGRE from France, Germany, Switzerland, Australia, Brazil, South Africa, and USA. The key topics of tutorials converged were Insulated Cables, Sub Stations, Overhead Lines, Power System Protection & Automation. CIGRE provides an international forum to engineers working in various fields of Electricity Generation & High Voltage Transmission System with the objective to develop technical knowledge and exchange of information amongst countries, ELECRAMA 2014 will see a repeat of highly successful sessions.

The evaluation would be multilevel with the help of senior executives from the industry, drawn from member organizations. The selected projects would be on display for final selection by the Jury, consisting of members from industry and academic institutions.

RBSM: Reverse Buyers Sellers Meet at ELECRAMA-2014.
We do not believe in bringing only the business community, but also decision makers from the power utilities so that they can meet one-to-one with the Indian manufacturers thereby giving them a good idea about the capabilities of the Indian electrical equipment industry. The Indian electrical equipment industry, over the years, has diversified, become mature with a strong manufacturing base and a robust supply chain, fully equipped to meet domestic demand / capacity addition planned in the country. A rugged performance design of domestically manufactured electrical equipment has evolved to meet the tough network demand in the country. In most sub-sectors, there is state-of-art technology at par with global standards. There is also an emerging global reputation of Indian electrical equipment for sourcing of products and components and also of Indian transmission and other EPC contractors. Global trade in electrical equipment is close to US$ 600 billion, with India’s share being less than 1%.

The Indian electrical equipment industry has been exporting almost 15% to 20% of their product portfolios, amounting to US$ 4.6 billion in 2011-12. With the power sector being a critical sector across the entire developing world, as governments strive to meet the rising aspirations of their people, and its significant correlation with GDP growth, the export opportunities for Indian electrical equipment are immense.

Indian electrical equipment industry, under the banner of IEEMA, has been undertaking traditional marketing activities including market studies, delegation visits, participation in international exhibitions, networking with counterpart associations globally, organizing international seminars and interaction with diplomatic missions, etc. The electrical equipment industry felt the need of a marketing platform to further promote Indian exports of electrical equipment. Therefore, for the first time in 2012, coinciding with ELECRAMA-2012 – the largest exhibition of its kind in the world in electrical, industrial electronics and allied sector, ChangeXchange – The Reverse Buyer-Seller Meet (RBSM) was organized by IEEMA, with support from the Department of Commerce, Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Government of India, under the Market Access Initiative (MAI) Scheme.

The event aimed to provide an export impetus to the Indian electrical equipment industry. The co-location of ChangeXchange together with ELECRAMA-2012 created a never before platform to promote the “Made in India” Brand and to enhance exports globally and promote strategic business partnerships between Indian manufacturers and foreign buyers of electrical equipment. The organization of the RBSM provided a major impetus to Indian electrical exports by introducing Indian products and technologies to global buyers. It was a very valuable experience for the foreign buyers from various countries, Indian industries, utilities as well as other stakeholders as the event showcased the best of technology of the Indian electrical equipment industry. The RBSM had an unprecedented and overwhelming response from both foreign buyers and Indian manufacturers of electrical equipment.

The estimated business generated, on a conservative basis, was over INR 200 crores, with another INR 500 crores worth of business in the pipeline. The event had over 2,000 scheduled meetings, countless on the sidelines, arranged between foreign buyers and Indian sellers and saw never before queues of enthusiastic sellers keen to make business contacts with international buyer delegations. Buyers from 31 countries from Africa, Latin America, ASEAN and CIS attended this mega RBSM spread over 5 days. 20 foreign diplomats based in India, including some Ambassadors and High Commissioners, also accompanied their delegations. Some of the foreign delegations were led by Ministers and senior Government Officials of the Electricity / Energy Ministries / Departments.

African delegation was the largest and included 234 buyers from Benin, Botswana, Burundi, DR Congo, Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Malawi, Mali, Mauritius, Morocco, Mozambique, Nigeria, Senegal, South Africa, South Sudan, Sudan, Tanzania, Togo, Tunisia, Uganda and Zimbabwe. There were 14 ASEAN buyers representing Malaysia and Thailand, 4 CIS buyers from Belarus, Georgia and Uzbekistan, along with 24 Latin American buyers from Argentina, Brazil, Chile and Uruguay. 683 Indian sellers represented the India supply side at the event.

Once again, IEEMA is organizing ChangeXchange – 2nd Reverse Buyer-Seller Meet (RBSM) concurrently with ELECRAMA-2014, from 8th to 12th January 2014 at Bangalore, with support from the Department of Commerce, Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Government of India, under the Market Access Initiative (MAI) Scheme. ChangeXchange 2014, much bigger and power-packed than the first edition, will be the biggest meeting place of foreign buyers who plan to source electrical products and equipment from India. It has special hosted buyer packages for buyers from countries of Africa, ASEAN, CIS, Latin American and SAARC, along with Iran.
