Farooq Abdullah, main promoter of Marvel Gloves Industries was in his family business of Edible oil manufacturing and food grain business which was established by family in 1904. Farooq Abdullah after his graduation and management course always thought to do something new and challenging. He always had in mind to start textile Industries.
Fortunately he found catalog of SHIMA SEIKI-JAPAN Automatic seamless gloves knitting machines which were used in Japan, Europe and USA to produce Working gloves and fashion gloves. He found the gloves knitting project interesting and established gloves manufacturing unit in India. During that period in India Leather Gloves, cotton canvas and hosiery cut and sewn gloves were used by Industries. It was totally new product to be launched in the market. After importing SHIMA Gloves knitting machines, the SSI unit was established in GIDC, Ankleshwar-Gujarat which small industrial town having chemical and textile Industries.
It was difficult to find skilled workers to run the unit as the machines were latest technology advanced machines. With lot of efforts uneducated semi- skilled workers were trained with the help of Japanese Engineer. Ultimately production was started and No Industries were interested to use these gloves which were more expensive than conventional stitched gloves. With lot of efforts, personal visits to Industries and free distribution of seamless knitted gloves for In the First year unit could achieve Annual sell of `16 Lakhs incurring loss. He always believed that the product has tremendous potential in India as Government of India in Eighties allowed Foreign companies to start Large Scale ventures including Automobile, Engineering, Pharmaceutical, Chemical etc. Industries.
After efforts and hard work of the entire team of Marvel, Company started making profits and Marvel Group established 3 more Gloves knitting units. Highlight of Marvel Group is providing maximum employment to uneducated backward class labor which includes 40% women Labors.
Total Labor in India consist 402 Million workers. Out of these, 94% workers are incorporated in unorganized sector. Only 29 Million workers are employed by organized sectors which also includes 17.30 Million work for Government or its entities. Safety measures are adopted by less than 20% workers in India. 337 Million Workers around the world are injured in workplace accidents. It is need of hour to promote adequate safety measures in work place by creating safety awareness in Indian Workers and Industries.
