Kuebler’s absolute Sendix- EtherCAT encoders integrate the latest slave-EtherCAT stack from Beckhoff with version 5.01.
The Kuebler Group offers a wide range of encoders from the Sendix family that meets these requirements. The portfolio provides suitable technology for every application: highly accurate and magnetic field-proof optical encoders for the drives technology or robust magnetic encoders for mobile machines. The multi-turn encoders of the Sendix family rely on two multi-turn techniques: the proven multi-turn mechanical gear with optical scan that counts up to 4096 revolutions, or the extremely compact electronic multi-turn stage with up to 16,777,216 revolutions. A hallmark of the Sendix encoders is their robust bearing construction with the Safety-Lock design.

Encoders with Safety-Lock feature interlocked bearings, a large bearing span and a special assembly technology and can accept faulty installation and tolerate high bearing loads, which may appear due to thermal expansion or vibrations. A further development of this technology is used in the Sendix-Heavy-Duty encoders (HD-Safety-Lock). For the drives technology, Kuebler offers encoders that operate reliably up to a speed of 12,000 RPM. The Sendix encoders are also suitable for outdoor use, thanks to their wide temperature range from -40°C up to +85°C and their high protection level of IP67 for optical encoders and up to IP69k for magnetic encoders. In case of high corrosion resistance requirements, Sendix versions certified according to IEC 68-2-11 are available. This certification confirms the resistance against the effects of salt spray for duration of up to 672 hours.

Focus on cost-efficiency, miniaturization and speed
Kuebler reacted to the basic trends of cost-efficiency, miniaturization and speed in the automation industry with the optical Sendix-F technology. This technology combines contradictions: the high speed and reliability of an optical sensor at a cost comparable to that of less accurate magnetic sensors. Thanks to their compact housing, the Sendix-F encoders with through hollow shaft and a very high multiturn resolution of 41bits can be mounted even when installation space is tight. And, with update time less than 1?s, and clock frequencies up to 10MHz, there are almost no speed-related limitations. With the new Sendix F5868 and F5888 encoders, Kuebler complements its F-multiturn family product range with robust high-resolution CANopen encoders with a through hollow shaft up to 15mm for a compact size of only 58mm. This through hollow shaft leaves, for example on drives, many possibilities for other motor options located behind the encoder. Besides many other CANopen functionalities, this encoder offers, among others, the Universal Scaling Function (USF). The Sendix encoders offer all main field bus interfaces (CANopen, Profibus, Devicenet, Modbus) and Industrial Ethernet interfaces such as Profinet and EtherCAT. For applications in mobile automation, the encoders feature a SAEJ1939 interface. The absolute Profinet encoders implement the whole encoder profile according to “Profile Encoder Version 4.1” and “Identification & Maintenance-Function in Version 1.16” (IM blocks 0, 1, 2, 3 and 4). The encoders support the Isochronous Real- Time-Mode (IRT-Mode) – ideal for real-time applications.

Fast Start-Up to start the system in less than one second
The Fast Start-up (FSU) allows starting up the system in less than one second. Functionalities such as Plug-&-Play commissioning, scale factors and preset values can be programmed via the bus; the transmission of position and speed, as well as of temperature values or encoder status, allows easy operation. The Ezturn software for visualization and parameterizing helps during installation and for diagnostics. In addition, the Media Redundancy Protocol (MRP) is implemented. The advantage: the functionality of the components, which are wired in a ring structure, is maintained in case of a failure or of a breakage of the wires in any location. The devices integrate the latest slave EtherCAT stack from Beckhoff with version 5.01, as well as the latest CANopen profile 3.2.10. With a position update within 62.5 ?s, the new EtherCAT encoders of Kuebler are faster than other devices.

The Sendix-SIL encoders are certified SIL2/PLd and SIL3/PLe. Combined with the Kuebler safety modules Safety-M, they ensure safe interaction between the plant and operators. But safety goes further than this: safe components are characterized by a robust reliable interface and by the ability to cope with high mechanical and electronic loads. They are available as incremental encoders (SinCos) and absolute singleturn and multiturn encoders (SSI, BiSS-C and SinCos). All variants are also available with ATEX and IECEX certification and, thanks to their explosion-proof enclosure, they are approved for zones 1/21 and 2/22.

Fast encoders with digital BiSS for the drives technology
The digital alternative for the drives technology: BiSS Sendix absolute encoders with a single-turn resolution up to max. 21bits.The fully digital and disclosed BiSS-C interface is based on a protocol for achieving a real-time interface for a bidirectional isochronous communication between the drive, the converter and the sensor. The position and status feedbacks are transmitted in real time and are faster than standard field bus and Ethernet systems.

Existing control hardware can in most cases be expanded with BiSS. Quick and free implementation is guaranteed thanks to free-of-charge BiSS IP’s on processors and FGPA’s. Compared with RS422 or RS485-based interfaces, BiSS is a real alternative. Kuebler offers for that purpose the active support of a team of experts.
