Mitsubishi Electric Cup 2016Eco Imagination is a lateral way of imagining and developing technologies for a sustainable world. It is an important concept that has to be seeded into the minds of young engineering students, to encourage them to think beyond conventional methods, keeping the larger global view in mind. The Mitsubishi Electric Cup is a novel opportunity for students to channelize their innovative ideas and showcase them to the world.

Supported by Mitsubishi Electric India, the Mitsubishi Electric Cup is a national level automation competition focused on exposing students to the latest solutions in high-end factory automation technology and exciting them to stretch their imagination by giving them an opportunity to apply this technology in their projects.

Mitsubishi Electric Cup 2016The first Mitsubishi Electric Cup tournament was held at the Vishwakarma Institute of Technology –(VIT), Pune in February 2016. The theme for the maiden edition of the contest, in tandem with the environment statement (Eco Changes) of the Mitsubishi Electric, was ‘Eco Imagination through Smart Manufacturing’. Under the theme, students were required to integrate Mitsubishi Electric’s factory automation products including PLC, servo, inverter and human-machine interface (HMI) to build up and achieve an analogous system of intelligent manufacturing and energy saving management application, based on e&eco-f@ctory concept while taking e-f@ctory system as the trunk.

Mitsubishi Electric Cup 2016The tournament received an overwhelming response from engineering colleges across cities. The organizing committee of the Mitsubishi Electric Cup shortlisted a total of 24 teams from across the country to compete in the final round. The winner team ‘Inferno’ from Dayalbagh Educational Institute, Agra walked away with prize worth of Rs. 1 lakh. The second place was taken by ‘N-Dimension’ from Vishwakarma Institutes of Technology, Pune who took home prizes worth Rs. 75,000 and “A’utomation” from CVR College of Engineering, Hyderabad secured the third spot and received prizes worth Rs. 50,000. All the participants received certificates of participation.

Mitsubishi Electric Cup 2016The competition aimed at providing on-field training to budding engineers from across the country and improving the ability of college students for engineering application, stimulating their interests in learning engineering technology and building up an innovation capacity in them.

During the first edition of Mitsubishi Electric Cup, Mitsubishi Electric India also supported Vishwakarma Institute of Technology (VIT), Pune with extension of their Factory Automation lab equipped with the latest technology.

With the looming energy crisis and increasing environmental pollution, energy conservation, emission reduction and environmental protection based green factory technologies have become common pursuits. In such a scenario, the Mitsubishi Electric Cup is setting a new benchmark in the efforts to bring academia and industry to work together to foster Innovation in students and ensuring a future-ready generation.
