Think small, but think green: IE3 motors from 0.12 kW
Tips for correctly specifying and sizing your actuator
NORD DRIVESYSTEMS will expand the IE3 premium efficiency motor range to include 0.12 kW motors from January 2016. Adding this smaller size to the IE3 portfolio will make it easier to equip entire plants with eco-friendly, highly efficient drive systems. Systems in the 0.12 kW to 0.75 kW rated power range are used in a large share of all drive applications. However, the efficiency percentiles for this performance class have been defined only in the last stage of the European Union Ecodesign Directive for electric motors, and have only recently been introduced into the international standard IEC 60034-30-1. Legally, there is no immediate need to act on motors this small: at this time, IE3 requirements within the EU only apply to motors rated at 7.5 kW or higher. Even in 2017, when smaller performance ratings are due to be included, this will only extend to 0.75 kW or larger systems. Still, users with a particular concern for the environment and those seeking to truly maximize efficiency may wish to go beyond current legal obligations. They will find that NORD DRIVESYSTEMS now enables them to pursue ecological solutions throughout all drive applications.
NORD supplies the compact IE3 motors in IEC frame sizes. Changing the specifications to IE3 is a smooth process that will not require physical design changes to machinery and equipment.
Company background
NORD DRIVESYSTEMS develops, produces and sells drive technologies with around 3.000 employees, and is one of the international leaders in the industry. In addition to standard drives, NORD supplies application-specific concepts and solutions, even for special applications, for example with energy-saving drives or explosion-protected systems. Gross sales amounted to approx. EUR 500 mn in the 2014 business year. The company founded in 1965 now has over 36 subsidiaries worldwide. The closely meshed sales and service network ensures optimum availability for short delivery times and customer-oriented services. NORD produces a wide variety of drive units for torques from 10 to 200,000 Nm, electric motors with powers from 0.12 kW to 1,000 kW as well as the necessary power electronics in the form of frequency inverters and servo controllers. Inverter solutions are available for classical installations in the switch cabinet and for decentralised and fully integrated drive units.
