Q. What are the exciting developments in your domain? What are the proactive initiatives you take to meet the changing needs of your discerning customers?
At Demag – Terex Material Handling, our motto is to deliver Safety, Efficiency and Reliability to our valued customers. We continue to innovate & upgrade our Products & Services for these vital attributes. Today with increased awareness and stringent government norms, industries demand enhanced safety when looking for material handling equipment, particularly demand for enhanced safety, reduced human intervention, optimal operating cost over a lifetime of the equipment & space efficiency (compact).
Across various geographies, for applications mainly in Automobile (Die transfer), Bulk material handling (Solid Municipal Waste, Cement, Coal), Steel & Paper handling, we provide with semi or fully-automatic process cranes, optimized to meet specific requirements of our customers besides the vital attributes discussed above. These cranes can communicate with integrated high-level control systems, for instance warehouse management. All functions, including the load pick-up, transfer and deposit are controlled by a Computer ensuring that a specified load handling per time requiring minimal supervision or intervention, and could be limited to an emergency stops.
At the moment, we are gearing to roll out many innovations in the market, one of them being Cranes with V-type girder. The construction of the V-type crane offers considerable technical benefits compared to conventional cranes that have closed box girders or I-beam girders. Its innovative design reduces oscillation frequency by 30 percent, cuts its weight by an average of 17% easing transport and installation cost and doubles its service life to more than 500,000 changes of load. The new girder concept offers significantly improved efficiency for handling loads and higher handling rates. Many of our customers in India have welcomed this solution.
We are also coming up with many service products complementing preventive maintenance so that our customers can have a better control of maintenance and avoid possible breakdowns. One such product is StatusControl system, which allows remote access to the system in real time and gives a complete picture of operating data and analysis at a glance. The biggest advantage this system brings over operational efficiency and reliability is the enhanced safety. We have also partnered with ABB to provide our customers with Complete Care of VFDs, so that our customers will be able to avoid possible breakdowns or deal with them in shortest possible time at lesser cost.
Q. Could you give a brief idea of your product portfolio and services spectrum?
We cater to complete in-plant material handling requirements for steel plants, automotive sector including ancillaries, general engineering, power equipment manufacturing, power generation in traditional (hydro & thermal) & renewable energy sectors (wind), paper manufacturing and warehousing etc. with a range of products and solutions encompassing chain hoists of 80 kgs to EOT of 400T capacity in varying configurations.
On services part, we have deployed a team of specialists & skilled technicians offering value-added services like spare parts management, aftermarket services like Annual Maintenance Contracts, life enhancement & modernization/refurbishment, etc. Given our versatile expertise, we cater to service needs of Demag as well as non-Demag brand products, which our customers see a major relief.
Q. What’s the difference you have made to enhance the operational efficiency of your customers?
At Demag, we collaborate with our clients to understand their needs and wants, and helping them select the right product with right attributes is only the first step in this direction. We advise on the right speed combinations to meet load cycle requirement, right mechanisms and controls for high-precision and safe movement, energy-efficient & reliable components for minimizing power consumption and maintenance cost in general and recommend configurations for reduced human intervention.
We also educate clients on right maintenance practices; training customer officials for appropriate product usage & maintenance knowledge are some of the distinct efforts.
Q. What’s the future of materials handling in India and where will you figure in this big picture?
The future is definitely where Safety, Efficiency & Reliability will prevail.
