Mrs. Arti Basu, who steers this trendsetter, is a Post-Graduate in Chemical Engineering, from the M.S. University. She started her career as a Project Engineer with Atul Products, but soon moved to Chem Conrols .A/S, Denmark, where she got an opportunity to work on gigantic World Bank Projects. This practical experience came in handy when she left a cushy job and ventured into business in 1993. Parth, her brainchild, has since emerged as a name to reckon with in environmental engineering, providing total solutions in all aspects of environment management. With an enviable business acumen, a charismatic Mrs. Basu, has traveled across the globe either for business or for imbibing or sharing knowledge in international technology forums. The Federation of Gujarat Industries has honoured her with the ‘Outstanding Women Entrepreneur(Professional) Award’ in 2009. Mr. P.K. Balasubramanian speaks to Mrs. Arti Basu to know more about the proven capabilities and achievements of the company she heads. Excerpts:

Q. What’s Parth’s niche and hallmark in environmental engineering?
Parth Projects And Construction Pvt. Ltd. specializes in turnkey project execution in the field of Air, Water and Solid Waste pollution control. We at Parth Projects manufacture, design, supply and commission Industrial waste water treatment plants, air pollution control plants and hazardous waste incineration systems. In this way we make a strong “commitment towards a clean environment”. Parth is known as customized solution provider for the complete environmental management catering to all three pollution control requirement of air, water and land pollution.

Q. Which is the most complex job you have done in air pollution control? Please describe its uniqueness.
We at Parth Projects have executed numerous projects in the field of air pollution control with highly challenging applications. One such exwample is the catalytic thermal NOx destruction system commissioned in the year 2005 for M/s. Süd-Chemi (India) Ltd. a flagship German multi-national company. It reduces NOx concentrations in the inlet flue gases from 3,00,000 ppm in the inlet to less than 50 PPM in the outlet stack. Such performance is displayed by no other method of scrubbing or treatment other than our specialized technology awaiting patent approval. Apart from this we have executed complete air pollution control plant for HF fumes at Gujarat Florochemicals Limited ( GFL) at Halol Near Vadodara and bromine scrubbing system at Ballarpur Industries Ltd. at Khavda Gujarat .

Q. You are also into waste water & effluent treatment plants. Which is the largest ETP you have installed and why is it outstanding?
In India in 2012, we did the largest pharmaceutical waste water recycling project implementing the laws of Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD) for Torrent Pharmaceuticals Ltd. – Indrad (Ahmadabad). 700 M3/day of API effluent waste-water that is treated and 85 % treated water is recycled back for reuse. The plant has successfully handled pollutant COD loadings 10 – 12 tons/day generating final treated water suitable for reuse in the plant through UF and RO. In China we have executed activated sludge Biological treatment plant of capacity 3250 M3/ Day as CETP for DSM Pharmaceuticals Ltd. ZJK China for the treatment of effluent form the cluster of Pharma companies owned by Pharma MNC of Netherlands.

Q. What are your achievements in water reclamation and reuse?
We at Parth Projects are able to achieve “Zero Liquid Discharge” in our installations with >85% recovery of waste water with our ZLFD plants employing Biological treatment plant , evaporators UF RO plant along with robust and reliable biological effluent treatment systems. Treated effluent is suitable for feeding back to the boilers, cooling tower make-up, process, gardening and irrigation etc. Parth enjoys special patronage in the pharmaceutical industry segment in India having demonstrated repeatedly the turnkey plant execution of various types of waste water treatment plants for recycle and reuse. The company has designed, manufactured and commissioned more than 100 projects of environment management systems and successfully catered to recycling treated waste water in cooling towers and boilers for various industries such as Pharmaceuticals & Bulk Drugs, Chemicals & Fertilizers, Petrochemicals, Paints & Resins and Research Center effluents.

Q. What are your capabilities in liquid/solid waste management and incineration?
We are able to provide complete Chemical waste incineration system to achieve the International standards of emissions.

Q. Do you make all the equipment you require for the projects you undertake?
The company designs and manufactures all Mild Steel & Stainless Steel fabricated equipment at its dedicated workshop including incinerators, absorption towers, Chimneys, venturi scrubbers, Clarifiers, Clari-floculators, Aerators, Carbon & Sand filters, Lamella Clarifiers, DAF Unit , Mixers, Storage Tanks , Strippers , Scrubbers, agitators , clarifiers, etc. Quality assurance plan for each product is documented for the shop floor execution. Inspection and testing equipment are available for the complete quality control. Various Jobs have been executed under the inspection of Consultants like Kvaerner/ TCE, KTI, SNCL, ICB, etc.

Q. Could you give some idea of your manufacturing facilities & capabilities?
The company has manufacturing facility at 875/8 GIDC, Makarpura with fabrication facility of 11000 Sq.Ft . We at PARTH offer reliability, quality control , committed delivery with highly experienced engineering staff, extensive manufacturing capabilities and a wide range of products with proven technologies.

What have you to say about your people and talent management?

Years of experience in this filed has trained our team to perform in all sorts of conditions to deliver superior performance. We are a highly efficient execution team for a fast-paced environment while coordinating numerous time-sensitive projects. Efficient project engineering and management requires strong organizational and team working skills in a variety of situations to achieve deadlines.

Q. When it comes to technology, are we using the best in environmental engineering?
We at Parth Projects utilize the state-of-the-art technologies such as fine bubble diffused aeration with MBR, MBBR or SBR for bio-degradation in all our installations which are the technologies currently being marketed and used all across Europe, Asia and the USA. Our treatment costs are significantly lower because we use the best and highly efficient equipment that gives the best output with low maintenance/ replacement. Our engineering plant designs undergo rigorous scrutiny in regard to optimizing the system to utilize latest technologies to reduce foot-print and power consumption.

Q. How do you contribute to converting ‘waste into wealth’, and to energy saving in plant, equipment and utility?
By recycling >85% of waste water back to the utilities make-up and simultaneously keeping the cost of treatment to a minimum, we offer a high return on investment in terms of capital expenditure vs. the water recycled and power savings. In this way, we ensure that our clients always prosper by manufacturing high volumes of product and profitability without worrying about the authorities and/or environment regulations.
