India is world’s largest investment opportunity in Energy sector: Piyush Goyal
New Delhi, December 03, 2016: 14th edition of Hindustan Times Leadership Summit today was graced by the presence of Mr. Piyush Goyal (Minister of State with Independent Charge for Power, Coal, New and Renewable Energy and Mines) who shared his view point on the current subjects of Debate in India i.e. Demonetisation, solar power, UP Elections and his glorious vision on Indian Economy.
Piyush Goyal, a trained Chartered Accountant, words Demonetization as the ‘Need of the Hour for India’. He said, “The cancellation of currency has played out well and it is a part of the series of brave decisions by the government in the last 2.5 years to curb black money and corruption in India. We have already witnessed a growth of 8.5-9% growth in Agricultural sowing and this decision will only add to the GDP.”
“India needed this decision. It will change the course of Indian economy. It will help people get an equal footing on a day-to-day-basis.”, he further added.
Speaking on the future of BJP after the elections in Uttar Pradesh, Piyush Goyal said, “We were going to sweep the elections before demonetization, now even, we will be in excess of 2/3 seats in UP election.”
Sharing his opinion on PM Modi’s leadership, Mr. Goyal said, “India, finally, has a decisive leader who can take strong decisions. Solar prices have come down by 45% because of Prime Minister’s transparent bidding policies. We are open to any dialogue on our financial aspects.”
He further added, “India is the world’s largest investment opportunity in the Energy sector. I visualize about a trillion dollar expansion opportunity in the coming 14-15 years. Solar is a major thrust area for us. We need to expand our per capita consumption from 1100 units to 4000-5000 units and the infrastructure has to be robust to also give 24/7 uninterrupted power. I didn’t know “p” of power when I was assigned the ministry. The solar power resources were about 2500 mega Watt when I joined and now it has already crossed 8500 mega Watt. We have witnessed tremendous growth and plan to increase the no. to 100,000 by 2022.”
