IPA : Bridging the industries with PROFIBUS & PROFINET technology platform
Q. IPA being the leading association in India for automation industry, please, brief us about recent initiatives undertaken by IPA in automation space?
Automation 2012 was Asia’s major event for Industrial Automation Business community. IPA participated in this fair at Mumbai from 7th September to 10th September 2012 , by way of a collective stand of the IPA members including Siemens, UL Group, Turck, Phoenix Contact, Profichip, Helmholz & Conservtech. IPA members exibited the Profibus, Profinet Products and had one to one converstaion with the technocrats about the benefits of using them in their fields. The Association also conducted a conference on the Profibus, Profinet technology, which was attended by manufacturers, entrepreneurs, system integrators, etc. The theme for these shows was Profibus, Profinet Technology innovations, safety Profile integration with Technology & the advantages of the technology.
Q. Please brief more about overall structure of IPA?
IPA has a core Group of 7 persons who drive the events based on member inputs, market needs & the End user demands. IPA is a marketing organization which has a goal to, during its activities; organize a marketplace for its members. This marketplace is a location where suppliers and purchasing companies can meet each other. The association is established and has as goal to promote the PROFIBUS & PROFINET standard in India.
The international mission of Profibus organisation is as follows:
“We are and will remain the world’s leading automation organization for communication solutions, serving our users, our members and the press with the best solutions, benefits and information. We are committed to setting and protecting the standards for open communication and control in the automation and process market.”
Within this dynamic scenario, PI (PROFIBUS & PROFINET International) is responding to end user’s needs in many ways. PI will:
- Remain committed to providing end users with timely, effective and relevant communication solutions.
- Remain the undisputed world market leader and maintain the largest installed base for industrial communications worldwide.
- Strengthen its position with interoperable, integrated automation solutions for plant-wide use.
- Extend automation solutions into new market areas.
By way of various joint activities of the members the association will contribute to this mission.
Q. What are initiatives undertaken by IPA for voicing out the issues & opportunities in the automation technology industry?
IPA had initiated its activities way back in 2009 when we had first participated in IA 2009 – Hannover Fair in Mumbai. During this fair we had a common demonstration system with connectivity to multiple vendors’ devices working on Profibus. The idea was to showcase the seamless integration of the technology independent of vendors. We had continued it for the last three years when we always held the theme to the top most priority in showcasing the technology. IPA participated in Automation fair 2012 at Mumbai from 7th September to 10th September, by way of a collective stand of the IPA members .We have also conducted various seminars in industrial and educational sectors besides hosting IPA road shows in different cities where the focus is on technology-based subjects.
Q. Is there any wish list created by IPA representing the industry for upcoming budget for 2013?
The only wish list we have is to take this technology promotion in every remote corner of the country. This will increase the users of Profibus & Profinet technology, as the user’s increases the Market demand will go up thus reducing the commercial burden on the manufacturers.
Q. Is there any special activities that were executed or to be executed by IPA in creating awareness of latest technology trends among the automation technology industry?
Every activity / event is special and treated with the utter most importance. We have taken IPA to the academic level where we not only briefed about the technology to the students but also to their professors. We belief that this was a special activity because if the young generation is the one who will bring a Big change tomorrow.
Q. How do you foresee the future of profibus technology in India?
There are large opportunities for the profibus technology in Indian industry. Any manufacturing sector can be identified and accordingly one can work towards ensuring growth in that area of manufacturing. To name — the power, cement, steel and mines are some of the few sectors where Profibus technology can be effectively used. Since IPA is also working towards spreading the technological know-how through various educational institutes, it is helping in promoting and providing excellence in Profibus technology training. This can further be enhanced by introducing basic training programs, enhancing employability and career growth which will help develop new breed which will be beneficial for the Profibus technology. Thus I definitely see a very bright future for this Profibus technology.
Q. As a association are you facilitating any new comers or multinationals to establish their business in India?
We have always welcomed new associates to the IPA family and we will continue to drive the association with the same energy to attract new members. Today we have members not only from the Indian subcontinent but also associates from foreign countries.
Q. Being the secretary of IPA, what is your vision for this association for next coming years?
Becoming a 100 member’s family is our vision; we are striving hard to achieve this goal. We wish to enroll all MNC’s, OEM’s, Manufactures, Traders, Distributors & Academic Institutes as well. We want to spread the technology awareness in every corner of the country. We want IPA to excel in all forms and bring in a new revolution in the Industrial communication technology in Industry & in Educational Institutes. We would like the Students , teachers from the Institutions, Universities to get to know better part of the technology at their level & can be ready for the Industry needs.
