Exchange Program aimed at strengthening and extending relationship in the education sector

LAPP - Stuttgart Meets Mumbai

LAPP GROUP, based in Germany and globally one of the leading manufacturers of cables and other cabling solutions – announced their support for a student exchange programme between BRJD Public School, Bhorugram, India and Fanny-Leicht-Gymnasium, Stuttgart, Germany. This is a dedicated initiative under the motto ‘Education needs Communication’ that helps support the exchange of knowledge, further strengthening relations between the two countries.

This was announced at the 9th ‘Stuttgart meets Mumbai’ – a two day celebration of the long and enduring partnership between twin cities of Mumbai and Stuttgart. The exchange programme aims to increase intercultural awareness by acquainting the students with everyday life, people’s expectations and views and general living conditions in the host country, while at the same time helping them develop their personalities.

The programme which is taking place for the first time will have participation of approximately 20 pupils from each country. The German partners will visit Bhorugram for two weeks and live with their Indian partners in the boarding school and the Indian partners will visit Stuttgart for the same time period and stay with the families of their German partners.

Through this exchange programme, the students will gain some insight into the culture of their host countries and learn geographical, political and historical facts, among them the history of the British Empire and the Commonwealth of Nations, and the subsequent importance of English as a world language. All participants will work together on a common project which will involve the study of English, Economics and Biology and cover the interdisciplinary topic of “Sustainable handling of water resources”.

Announcing the exchange program, Mr. Andreas Lapp – Chairman of The Board LAPP HOLDING AG and Honorary Consul of India said, “Globalisation will play a major role in the future and we need to be prepared for an inevitable development. We can be prepared by welcoming the change, opening ourselves up to new things and by evaluating the opportunities and potential this future holds, as well as the risks and stumbling blocks it will bring. Moreover, familiarising ourselves with other cultures will be the key to sustainability, along with the major topic of education”.

He added, “On the occasion of the completion of 60th year of successful business and cultural relationship between India and Germany, we are happy to announce our support for an exchange program between two schools in Mumbai and Stuttgart. This is to strengthen and extend our relationship in the education sector resulting in an exchange of knowledge between the two countries.”

Speaking on the exchange program, Mrs. Isabel Fezer, Deputy Mayor of City of Stuttgart for Social Welfare, Youth and Public Health said, “This is the 45th year of successful relationship between Mumbai and Stuttgart; over these years we have developed stronger business, educational, political and cultural ties. Mr. Lapp’s support for an exchange program will further strengthen these ties through the exchange of knowledge between the two countries. This will also give exposure to students of both the schools by providing them an opportunity to benefit from each other’s knowledge.”

Speaking on Indo-German relations, Mr. Sitaram Kunte, Muncipal Commissioner of Greater Mumbai, “If we (India and Germany) continue to strengthen our socio-economic ties and leverage each other’s potential, the future will be very promising and may aid the countries in becoming very important economic players.”

The landmark annual Wine Festival “Stuttgart meets Mumbai” is organized in celebration of over 45-year long and enduring partnership between the sister cities of Stuttgart and Mumbai. Stuttgart, the state capital of Baden-Württemberg, Germany is surrounded by amazing vineyards that produce prize-winning wines and as a token of appreciation and good regards for India, Chairman of The Board LAPP HOLDINGS AG., Mr. Andreas Lapp who is also the Honorary Consul of Republic of India since 2001 initiated this signature event eight years ago. Over 1000 bottles of wine is especially flown down from Germany for this event to present the citizens of Mumbai with a true German flavour of love and friendship.

Focused on deepening this existing relationship the wine-fest brought together people from politics, across industries and cultural domains. Some of the other programs organized at this event were- jewellery workshop on modern German jewellery and design culture, Student exchange program workshops, entertainment program, Stuttgart specialities buffet, wine tasting sessions with experts from Stuttgart accompanied by typical Swabian music.

The ‘Stuttgart meets Mumbai’ Wine Festival is the ideal platform for getting to know each other better and sharing experiences and ideas. Business people, creative artists and politicians can make new contacts or strengthen old ones and build bridges between the cultures.
