ASME, the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, is a not-for-profit membership organization that enables collaboration, knowledge sharing, career enrichment, and skills development across all engineering disciplines.

Founded in 1880 by a small group of leading industrialists, ASME has grown through the decades to include more than 130,000 members in over 150 countries around the globe – and ASME’s fastest growing community is right here in India!

What does ASME do?
One of ASME’s core activities is the development of internationally recognized Standards – involving the development, maintenance, and publication of hundreds of technical standards which help to ensure consistency and safety in the design, manufacture, operation, inspection, testing and maintenance of systems and components used in buildings, power plants, and other parts of our infrastructure.

ASME brings together over 5,000 volunteer subject matter experts from around the world who help write, review and maintain these standards. In many cases, these standards not only serve as the building blocks for future innovation, but also serve as useful tools for governments in enhancing public safety and for businesses in building confidence in global markets.

Who are ASME members?
The diverse member base ranges from college students and early-career engineers to project managers, corporate executives, researchers and academic leaders. ASME serves this wide-ranging technical community through quality programs in continuing education, training and professional development, standards and certification, research, conferences and publications, government relations, and other forms of outreach.

Why join ASME?
Many engineers join ASME for career enrichment, lifelong learning, and the opportunity to network with professionals of like-minded interests. Others become active in local sections, technical divisions, or serve on ASME’s boards and committees, providing leadership and expertise to the Society and the profession at large.

Today ASME is proud to announce exciting new membership options for professionals and students residing in India – options featuring more content, more benefits and exciting opportunities to participate in ASME.org’s vibrant online community.

Combined with new and affordable pricing levels, becoming a member of ASME’s community is easier and more valuable than ever before!
