DPSC Limited, one of the oldest and renowned power utilities in India, has appointed Mr. Siddharth Mehta as its Chief Executive Officer of the Generation, Distribution and Trading Business of DPSC Limited along with the Wind Power Business of the group.

Mr. Mehta joins DPSC Ltd from the Essar Group, where he was serving as the CEO of Essar Power Distribution Company. He has also been associated with Torrent Power & Tata Power in his over 30 years of rich experience in the sector.

Mr. Mehta, a B.E (Electrical) from the prestigious Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, started his career with Tata Power and continued with the organisation for 24 years. A veteran in India’s Power sector, Mr. Mehta has expertise in the fields of power distribution and transmission and specialises in Public-Private Partnership in Power field, Strategy and Business Development, Project Coordination, Management & Execution; and Corporate Governance & Growth.

DPSC Limited (formerly known as Dishergarh Power Supply Company Ltd), one of the oldest power utility companies in India, was incorporated in the year 1919 in the state of West Bengal. The company was set up primarily to supply power to the Bengal Coal Company Ltd., then the largest producer of coal in Asia.

An Andrew Yule company, DPSC went for a disinvestment in the year 2009-10 & was taken over by IPCL. DPSC has ever since supported the process of rapid industrialization of the State. The company is listed on the National Stock Exchange, the Calcutta Stock Exchange and MCX-SX.

The company generates 12 MW from its coal-based thermal power plant at Dishergarh. In the T&D space, the company has a license for supply of electricity in and around Asansol-Ranigunj area spread over 618 sq. km. with a combined distribution capacity of 250 MVA. DPSC serves more than 552 consumers’ power needs in this area. The company has strong distribution network with T&D loss of only 3% against country average of 25% (Source: CEA).

India Power Corporation Limited (IPCL) was set up in November 2003 to develop power projects in the conventional as well as renewable energy sector. The Company forayed into operations by developing wind power plants in the states of Karnataka, Gujarat and Rajasthan with an installed capacity of around 100 MW.

IPCL formed India Power Corporation (Haldia) Limited – IPC(H)L – as an SPV in 2008 to set up a 450 MW captive power plant in association with Bhaskar Silicon Ltd. at Haldia and a 540 MW at Raghunathpur. The projects are expected to be commissioned by year 2015. The Company has also conceived 1320 MW thermal projects each in states of Bihar, Jharkhand, Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh.
